My first economic downturn in crash was in the 1987 mess on Wall Street. And one of the things I noticed right after is that immediately what people wanted to eat was very important and it turned out to be roast chicken and mashed potatoes. I think they were putting their face into the mashed potatoes. Whenever things are tough, what we eat and how we eat it becomes very evident certainly to me because I care about these things and in its way a reflection of what's going on.
So these days we have more and more. Bisto's and Trattorias, whether they be Korean or Thai, what we're getting are local restaurants with traditional dishes that are familiar and warming and good. And, you know, maybe it's a diner, but whatever it is, it's something that we know and love and it makes us feel better. Thank goodness. Savoring Sonoma, I'm Clark Wolf for KRCB.
