It's not that I'm not a fan of ritual. It's that I don't like ritual to become rote. I don't like it when I'm kind of unconscious going through the motions of something that's supposed to be important and wonderful, special, and dear.
So I really do try and I really do urge friends, family, and pastors by to take another look, take a fresh look, take a a a new perspective, think about it from somebody else's view point, talk to people, do something that you've never done before and make a new ritual, but keep these moments when we're supposed to be gathering and celebrating and hoping for the future as fresh and as vibrant as they can.
